1. Recommended Dosage
- Dose: 400 mg taken by mouth twice daily, approximately every 12 hours.
- Schedule: Take medication for 4 consecutive days, then take 3 days off.
- With or without food: Either is acceptable.
If you miss a dose:
- You may take it within 4 hours of the scheduled time.
- If more than 4 hours have passed, skip that dose and take your next dose at the regular time.
- Do not take two doses to make up for the missed one.
2. Important Precautions & Monitoring
A. Blood Sugar (High Glucose)
- Routine monitoring of fasting blood glucose and HbA1c before and during treatment is essential.
- If you have diabetes or are at high risk, it’s important to monitor blood sugars at home and adjust your treatment (for example, diabetes medication) as needed.
B. Diarrhea Management
- At the first sign of loose stool, start anti‑diarrhea treatment such as loperamide and increase your fluid intake.
- If diarrhea persists, seek medical advice to check electrolyte levels (salts in the blood) and prevent complications.
C. Skin Side Effects
- If you notice a rash (or redness or blisters), contact a dermatologist or your healthcare provider early.
- For more severe skin reactions, treatment may need to be paused and a short course of corticosteroids may be recommended.
D. Effects on Pregnancy (Embryo‑Fetal Toxicity)
- Women of childbearing potential must use effective contraception during treatment and for 1 month after stopping the drug.
- Men must use contraception during treatment and for 4 months after stopping the drug.
