Is LuciNfig Right for You?
——A Simple Guide to Understanding Your Treatment
LuciNfig is a special kind of medicine. It works best for certain health conditions that are caused by changes in your genes or in the way your cells grow. That means it’s very important to get the right tests before starting this treatment—so doctors can be sure it’s a good match for you or your child.

1. Testing First: Why It’s Important
Before using LuciNfig, doctors need to check if there are specific gene changes that this medicine is designed to treat.
a. For Bone Growth Conditions (like Achondroplasia or Hypochondroplasia)
These conditions often happen because of a change in a gene called FGFR3.
How do doctors test for this?
- A simple blood test or cheek swab can show if there’s an FGFR3 gene change.
- Doctors may suggest this test if a child has short arms or legs, grows slower than expected, or has unusual bone development.
If testing isn’t available:
Doctors may still be able to make a diagnosis by looking at physical signs, growth patterns, and X‑rays.

b. For Certain Cancers
LuciNfig is also used to treat some cancers—but only when the cancer has specific gene changes involving FGFR1, FGFR2, or FGFR3.
Examples of cancers LuciNfig may treat include:
- FGFR2 fusion in bile duct cancer
- FGFR1 amplification in brain tumors
- FGFR3–TACC3 fusion in bladder cancer
2. Health Checks Before Starting LuciNfig
Even if your test results say LuciNfig might help, your doctor will still run a few more checks to make sure it’s safe for you.
a. Eye Exam
LuciNfig can sometimes affect the eyes.
- You’ll need an eye scan (called an OCT) before starting treatment.
- This scan is repeated every 3 months.
- Young children may need a mild sedative to help them stay still for the scan.
b. Blood Tests
Doctors will check your blood for:
- Phosphate levels
- Liver and kidney health
- Calcium and other minerals
c. Pregnancy Test (if needed)
LuciNfig can harm a developing baby.
- Women who can get pregnant must take a test before starting and use birth control during treatment and for 1 month after stopping.
d. Heart Check
If you have a history of heart problems, your doctor might do an ECG test.
3. Who Should Not Use LuciNfig?
LuciNfig is not right for everyone. You should not take LuciNfig if:
- You don’t have the specific FGFR gene changes it treats
- You have serious liver or kidney problems
- Your phosphate levels are not under control
- You’re allergic to LuciNfig or its ingredients
- You’re pregnant or breastfeeding
The Bottom Line: Personalized Treatment Starts with the Right Diagnosis
LuciNfig is a powerful treatment, but it only works if it’s used for the right condition. With the proper testing and regular checkups, LuciNfig can be a safe and effective option for many patients.
Always talk to your doctor about whether LuciNfig is right for you or your child.
